Thrive Alabama Hosts President George W. Bush For Fundraising Event
Thrive Alabama recently welcomed former President George W. Bush to the Von Braun Center for a fundraising event aimed at financing their capital campaign, “When One Thrives, All Thrive.” The campaign seeks to raise $8 million to construct a 72,000 square foot state-of-the-art healthcare center in Huntsville, strategically located at the intersection of Oakwood Avenue and Washington Street.
In an interview with Huntsville Business Journal, Thrive CEO Mary Elizabeth Marr expressed enthusiasm for the event, which featured dinner and a fireside chat moderated by local business leaders. Marr shared, “We were so excited, so humbled by having former President George W. Bush here in town for our event.” The president’s discussion focused on critical topics such as veterans’ health and the importance of community health centers, aligning with Thrive’s mission to strengthen healthcare access.
The new facility will significantly expand services, increasing the number of exam rooms from 20 to 52 and enabling Thrive to cater to underserved populations. The projected patient load is expected to double from 7,000 to 14,000, providing comprehensive services including adult primary care, pediatrics, dental care, and behavioral health support. Marr emphasized Thrive’s commitment to inclusive healthcare, serving individuals regardless of insurance status.
Following the event, Marr traveled to Washington, D.C., to advocate for healthcare access for underserved populations in Alabama. With a substantial portion of Madison County residents living below the federal poverty level, the planned expansion is poised to make a significant impact on community health.
